Day Chapters

A day is rarely about one thing. It is a sequence of encounters, detours, objects carried home, conversations remembered, exhibitions entered, photographs made, meals shared with oneself, and small discoveries that quietly alter what comes next. Day Chapters preserves those days intact. Rather than separating photographs from artifacts, recordings, books, and ephemera, each chapter allows them to remain together as they were experienced. The result is not simply an archive of images, but an archive of attention.

Research in Motion

What began as a focused research day quickly expanded into a wider study of image-making, material culture, design, and the city itself. I began on the Lower East Side investigating condom packaging at London, then moved through AutoPhoto and the Voice-O-Graph, where I made another recorded field note and learned more about the history of the machines. At Oberon, the restaurant inside the New Museum, food, interiors, printed matter, and cast-glass objects became part of the day’s visual research. Along the way, gallery visits, books, street interventions, receipts, coasters, photographs, and unexpected encounters accumulated into an informal archive. The day concluded at Atelier Jolie, where conversation and community returned the research to the larger question of how looking, collecting, and moving through New York continue to shape my practice.
